The village and the castle of Montrésor
Just two kilometers from the cottage where you will stay, take the time to stroll through the alleys of Montrésor. This picturesque village is classified “Most beautiful villages of France”! In the village, the houses with white or half-timbered tufa walls are next to semi-troglodyte dwellings. It’s worth the detour !
The four must-sees to visit in Montrésor are:
- The castle (11th and 15th century) with its Polish art museum. Fully furnished, it belongs to the family BRANICKI since 1848. It still works today to make known this little known treasure. The visit of the castle will allow you to admire many paintings, a bas-relief woodwork from the 17th century by Pierre Vanneau, goldsmith pieces from the Polish royal tableware and splendid hunting trophies in Poland.
- Collegiate Saint-Jean-Baptiste: The visit of the castle is completed by that of the Collegiate where are two splendid recumbent family Bastarnay and an interesting painting by Philippe de Champaigne. We advise you to finish the visit with a walk on the banks of the Indre, from where you will see the imposing silhouette of the castle and the Collegiate Church.
- Hall of the Cardeux (exhibitions)
